Brendan O’Sullivan Bio

Brendan O’Sullivan was born before the end of World War II in Bronx, New York. He graduated St Helena High School and entered the U.S. Navy at age 17. After six years of U.S. Naval Service he was appointed a Police Officer by the New York City Police Department in October 1968 with a retroactive appointment date of 25 June 1966. His police career started in the South Bronx where he was assigned to the 40 Pct and was eventually assigned to the 40 Anti Crime Unit and subsequently to the City Wide Anti Crime Unit at Randall’s Island. In 1977 he graduated from the New York Institute of Technology with a BS Degree in Criminal Justice and transferred into the Narcotics Division. There, he was assigned to the Bronx until he was transferred into the Detective Bureau in 1981 and re-assigned to various Detective Commands in Brooklyn North. Expressing an interest in Forensics Sciences, he requested a transfer to the Crime Scene Unit and was assigned there from 1988 until his promotion to Sergeant in 1991. As a Sergeant he was assigned to the 81 Pct for 8 months and then re-assigned back to the Detective Bureau where he became the Executive Officer in the Brooklyn Robbery Squad and the 83 Detective Squad. In 1994 he was assigned as Commanding Officer of the 94 Detective Squad until he retired in 1995. Brendan O’Sullivan remained in the Naval Reserve for 28 years and eventually transferred to the U.S. Army National Guard where he retired in 1990. Brendan O’Sullivan became a member of the International Police Association in 1988. After being an active member for a short while he was appointed Assistant Reception Officer to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and later elected to the positions of New York City Reception Officer and 3rd Vice President.
